Hanukkah History- Day 1- Blogukkah

february (1)What’s up, Guys? It’s Kiki! Before I start, I want to say: Happy Hanukkah! ( If you celebrate it, of course 😉 ) Cause today is the first day of Hanukkah! *throws blue and white confetti and gelt into the air* *spins dreidels and shoves doughnuts and latkes into mouth* So, to celebrate this joyous holiday I’m doing sort of like a blogmas but different. I’m going to try to post something Hanukkah related all 8 days. Today, I’m going to start off with the story or history of Hanukkah. Let’s begin!

Unlike many Jewish holidays, Hanukkah (also known as the Festival of Lights) is not mentioned in the Bible. The historical events upon which the celebration is based are recorded in Maccabees I and II, two books contained within a later collection of writings known as the Apocrypha. Although Hanukkah is considered a “minor” Jewish festival, today it ranks—along with Passover and Purim—as one of the most beloved Jewish family holidays.
In the year 168 B.C.E., the Syrian tyrant Antiochus Epiphanes sent his soldiers to Jerusalem. The Syrians desecrated the Temple, the holiest place for Jews at that time.  Antiochus also abolished Judaism, outlawing the observance of Shabbat and the Festivals, as well as circumcision.  Altars and idols were set up for the worship of Greek gods and he offered Jews two options:  conversion or death.
On the 25th day of the Hebrew month of Kislev in 168 B.C.E., the Temple was renamed for the Greek god Zeus. A resistance movement— led by a priestly family known as the Hasmoneans, or Maccabees—developed against the cruelty of Antiochus. The head of the family was Mattathias, an elderly man.  His son, Judah, became the chief strategist and military leader of the resistance. Though outnumbered, Judah Maccabee and his fighters miraculously won two major battles, routing the Syrians decisively.
Although historians debate the causes and outcomes of the war in which Judah Maccabee and his followers defeated the Syrian armies of Antiochus, there is no doubt that Hanukkah evokes stirring images of Jewish valor against overwhelming odds. Other themes rooted in the observance of the holiday include the refusal to submit to the religious demands of an empire practicing idolatry, the struggle against total assimilation into Hellenistic culture and loss of Jewish identity, and the fight for Jewish political autonomy and self-determination.
Hanukkah, which means “dedication,” is the festival that commemorates the purification and rededication of the Temple following the defilement caused by the Greeks during their occupation of that holy place. Today, the holiday reminds Jews to rededicate themselves to stand against forces that would destroy Judaism and to keep alive the flame of Jewish religion, culture, and peoplehood so that it may be passed on to the next generation.
Originally, the eight-day holiday was intended to parallel the eight-day festival of Sukkot. The Books of the Maccabees made no mention of the legend concerning a small jar of oil that unexpectedly lasted for eight days.  Only centuries after the Maccabees’ defeat of the Syrians did the story of the jar of oil—which has come to be a part of Hanukkah—appear in the Talmud.
According to the legend, when the Maccabees entered the Temple and began to reclaim it from the Greeks, they immediately relit the ner tamid (eternal light), which burned constantly in the Temple and has a parallel in our synagogues to this day. In the Temple, they found a single jar of oil, which was sufficient for only one day. The messenger who was sent to secure additional oil took eight days to complete his mission, and miraculously, the single jar of oil continued to burn until his return. The rabbis of the Talmud attributed the eight days of Hanukkah to the miracle of this single jar of oil.
Although the practice of lighting the menorah was common throughout much of the 19th century, North American Jews tended to neglect most of the other traditions and practices associated with the holiday.  By the 1920s, however, Jews increasingly added gift-giving to their Hanukkah celebrations, prompting Christians to refer to Hanukkah as the “Jewish Christmas.”
Like many aspects of Jewish religious practice, the transformation of Hanukkah was linked to the growth of North American Jewry within its unique environment. The elevation of Hanukkah to a major holiday was the result of Jews acculturating themselves to a North America that was overwhelmingly Christian in population and symbols.
Although Hanukkah had become an important holiday among North American Jews by the 1920s, it would be incorrect to regard it as an imitation of Christmas with an emphasis on the exchange of presents. Rather, North American Jews use this holiday as a celebration of family, reinforcing Jewish identity in a place whose population may be overwhelmingly Christian but in which Jews feel at home. Hanukkah, therefore, is a means for North American Jews to feel a kinship with their neighbors, while simultaneously asserting their Jewish distinctiveness.

I also have here a little song that also explains the Hanukah story in a more ‘entertaining’ way 😉 I warn you, though; it’s catchy 😀

Well, I hope you’ve enjoyed this post! I decided really spur of the moment (literally two days ago) to do this ‘8 days of Hanukkah’ thing because obviously, this little blogosphere I’m in is mainly Christian, and I wanted to share and embrace some of my culture. Don’t forget to comment down below and come back tomorrow for another post!

See ya, tomorrow,

Hey, Guys! It’s Kiki! How are you guys enjoying break and cooler weather and stuff? I’m personally really enjoying it 😀  Remember my last post, I said I had to go on two different types of medicine for my fungal infection? Well, it turns out I’m allergic to them. I had a really bad allergic reaction last week. My chest and throat were really tight so, I couldn’t get any air when I tried to sleep. I had to sleep on the recliner and my Mom stayed out with me. I ended up being okay, the doctors just said to take some Benadryl.  Now, here’s the winning name!

#55

Well, it’s actually a tie between Eva and Hazel! They are both great names! So, to break the tie, I’ll put in my vote 😉 Ooh, this is hard but I think I choose………………..Hazel! Even though she could rock Eva, I just feel Hazel; if ya know what I mean 🙂 Well, thank you for commenting and voting! It seems like you guys enjoy these type of posts. In the near future, I’ll be posting better and more I’m just waiting for the camera situation.

Anyway, My Aunt and Uncle are coming down and we’re having a barbecue Thanksgiving? Yeah. We’re so traditional 😛 But I don’t really mind.

What are you most looking forward to eating at Thanksgiving? Is your family traditional or untraditional (like mine)?

I’m going back to homeschool?! & Luciana Vega leaked!

Greetings! It’s Kiki here!

So, as you all know, I was going to a college-prep charter high-school. You guys also know- but not to what extent- that I had a TON of homework and just school work in general. I’d wake up at 6 am my mom or dad would drive us to go an hour away to this school (traffic) get home at 5 pm do homework till 11pm.

I’m a total Introvert so I really was emoinally tired by the people at the end of the day. I also crack under pressure and had a lots of anxiety. I wasn’t eating, I was always cold, my stomach hurt, I was worried about be picked on or failing. It was really bad. I blame a lot of it on presentations.

By the time 11 pm came I’d be so tired and angry an say a million times how I hated school. Sometimes, my Mom or Dad had to help us because we weren’t understanding what they wanted and they were already tired from their own day and stuff. One time I was so tired and angry I wanted to cry but I like couldn’t. It was really weird.

So, yeah that’s what my days are like, even on Saturdays I’d be working on homework. Plus the language, inappropriate topics, and getting picked on, etc. was too much. So, yesterday my parents did a whole ‘pros and cons’ list of homeschool and charter school and we all decided that homeschool was a better fit for our family physically, emotionally, spirituality and all that stuff. So, I’m happy to announce that I’ll be posting more!

Besides, all the school stuff, Luciana Vega has leaked! So, here is what she looks like!

img_9900

It’s a little early for a leak but I’m not complaining 😄 Finally, a left part! I have a left part if you couldn’t tell 😉 I love her outfit and purple streak! It looks like she has the Josefina mold. Her logo is super cool and spacey 😉 The box doesn’t look like their boutique boxes though… What do you think of her? I need more pictures and information 😜

I hope you enjoyed this post 🙂 Don’t forget to comment down below!

August Synopsis- 2017

Greetings! It's Kiki here with another synopsis post! A lot of things have been happening so I thought a post like this would be perfect to cover everything and plus, I like making posts like this😜So, let's begin!

It's a official; I'm not going to be homeschooled this year! Yes, very surprising. My Mom literary asked me last week, what do you think of going to school? Of course, I was like, no but after seeing a video of the school, it looked pretty cool. I toured the school Monday and- yes, I took pictures😉 It's a charter school and it's definitely not a traditional teaching method. You don't have classrooms and a lot of stuff you do is on a laptop etc. I wasn't able to see the high-school (only the Middle-school) cause it's under construction currently, but I will next week 🙂 The headmaster (principle) said that they are only 88 kids this year for the high-school. Which isn't to bad. I'm very sorry some of the pictures are blurry the tour guide was very fast 😕

The butterfly garden and a tree house/playground thing.

The parking lot.

The right side of the lobby.

The left side of the lobby.

The plaza and different angles of it.

Where you sit to eat lunch.

The kitchen.

An elevator.

On the second-level we have, more seats to do your work at.

I forgot what this room was for and they have a movement studio but I wasn't able to get a picture 😞

The reading area and they have rooms behind this for science and stuff, that I also wasn't able to get a picture of.

img_9075It was raining so hard and I loved it. That's the end of the pictures!

I had to get three shots last Friday to go to school and it went terrible. Right after she injected the third shot into my right arm, I started feeling sick. My heart was beating so fast, I kept thinking that the medicine in the shots were going to kill me, my legs felt a little weak and then my eyes started to go black. I luckily didn't pass out because I kind of told the nurse by covering my eyes and by a gasp, I think. So, she pulled me over onto the examination table so, I could lay down and put a cold compress on my head. Apparently, some people have that reaction when they get shots, it's a mental thing.

Went school shopping Sunday. Man, that was stressful. Since, I'm 5'10 (close to 5'11) I have to buy tall clothes and they usually aren't sold in stores, which means my only option is ordering and most of the time they don't have size or don't have what I need. So, it's an extremely long and hard process but thankfully, it's over and I found what I needed 🙂

The "Create your own doll" thing came out! I don't exactly know when, but I just went on the AG website and there it was! I played around with it and there are not very many options and a lot of stuff is already backordered 😕

I still want an Asian doll 😄

I'm participating in CWWC and I'm on Team Shire! Elves (me), Hobbits, and Dwarves for the win!

The Last Jedi comes out so soon and I'm very excited to see it!

And they better make a Pirates of the Caribbean 6. I saw the fifth one for my birthday (which was like a month ago) and it was really good but I seriously love every movie in the series so yeah 😄

I'm going to be updating my blog design soon. It's been awhile since I've had a new look 😉

I have: 154 followers, 2,840 visitors, 15,040 views, my top commenter- besides myself- is Abby, and I've made 135 posts 🙂 Thank you, everyone😊

If you want to read my CWWC entries click my CWWC page or click the Hobbit-Hole image down below to lead you to my Writing and Photography blog or if you want a quicker option click HERE!

I'll be making a back-to-school outfit guide with little miss sassy, Chrissa! Since, I noticed that the dolls' don't really have many posts where they talk for themselves 😉

I hope you enjoyed this post! Don't forget to comment down below! I love reading and answering your Guys' comments! And Good luck with school and CWWC!

Some AG news!

Greetings!

Yesterday, Goty 2018’s shirt leaked. I know so early, usually leaks like this happen in the fall 😉

Her name is Luciana Vega. The rumor is she’s either Italian or Spanish but I’m here to confirm that she is probably Spanish because of her last name🙂 She’s most likely into astronomy and STEAM. Hence her shirt up above😉 I’m pretty excited for her! I think 2018 could be a promising year!

AG is doing this create your own doll thing, where you- obviously create a doll, then you pick out an outfit from this exclusive collection and the same goes for accessories. The total comes to 200 dollars 😮 Anyway, this should be coming out very soon since it says late July…

I read somewhere that Nanea will be out for AG rewards members the first week in August! So, I guess that’s good 🙂

What are your thoughts on AG’s new upcoming stuff?

Ps: Credit to American girl Doll News for the shirt pic 🙂

My Trip Pictures to Illinois Pt. 1

Greetings, Guys! It’s Kiki! So, you all should know that I went to Illinois to see my Grandpa (Opa) in late May and that I took TONS of pictures. Yes, I know this an overdue post. Sorting through pictures and watermarking and stuff takes a lot of work, ya know. But fear not cause I have done the perilous journey for your entertainment. So, with that being said, let’s begin!

img_8855

img_8854

The St. Louis arch, which means we’re almost there!

img_8856Finally after to many days and hours of driving we’ve made it to Illinois!

img_8857After a couple more hours of driving, we were greeted by Niñi (I have no idea how to spell it but it’s Spanish for little boy).

img_8860And CC! My cat but everyone (except my Opa) thinks its CCs’ kid. I guess it will always be a mystery 😉

img_8858

img_8863

Here are some random black cats.

img_8872Wandering around his land.

img_8895

img_8864This bull was pretty small but he was a big jerk😐

img_8865

I found these cute little kittens in the barn, scared for their life because of me and Niñi (that dog follows you wherever you go. And it got annoying really quick!)

img_8891I can’t forget about the sheep, who were also afraid of me but the little lambs are so CUTE!!!😍

img_8870

img_8869More wandering…

img_8868img_8867He had so many wild flowers on his land and I loved it.🙂

img_8894img_8911img_8866

img_8896

I found this toad that has one of the best camouflages I’ve seen in awhile, cause I almost stepped on or ran over him with the tractor😂

img_8912This is at the front of his driveway.

img_8882Me attempting to take a selfie with CC… I didn’t work out 😜 Our faces are so weird!

img_8889And lastly me and Chance found out that CC has kittens. Aren’t they cute? I love the gray color on their fur

img_8890Here’s CC with her kittens 🙂

Well, I hope you’ve enjoyed this post! And I’ll post Pt. 2 sometime in the near future!

Bye,

My Crazy Fourth of July & Fireworks photo-shoot!

Greetings and Happy late Fourth of July! 🎉 It’s your firework lover, Kiki here! Anyway, I hope you had an amazing 4th! Full of breathtaking fireworks, hanging out with friends and family, and unforgettable memories! I actually had the best 4th yet! Get ready for a long story about the family who invited us over for July 4th😄

My Mom likes watching this Guy’s YT channel (It’s called TeNak Talk and his name is Mr. Hall, by the way) and my Dad found out he lives closer to us than he thought (he lives and hour and 30 minutes away.) So, my Mom contacted him and we set up a time to Skype him as his family (that was two weeks ago; I think.) We really hit it off and stuff. So, throughout the last two weeks just us kids have Skyped each other. They have a daughter that’s my age and a son that’s Chance’s age. And then two days ago in the afternoon Mr. Hall calls my Mom and asks if we’d like to come to his house for Fourth of July and we happily accepted. When we get down there, they showed us their property and then we had dinner. Of course, I was shy and a little bit uncomfortable but that all changed when we set off fireworks…. I’ll tell you my almost death experience in a sec 😉 😂 For now, you’ll be seeing a firework photo-shoot!

img_8641

You’re probably thinking “This looks like a non-dangerous firework”. Well, guess what? YOU’RE WRONG!!

img_8642

What happened was, that they lit three fireworks on the table at the same time. Other fireworks are also on that table and one lit firework tipped over and lit some other ones in our direction. Of course, I’m oblivious to it cause I just wanted a decent photo but then I hear people running and making some noise. I’m like cowards, but I look up and see them coming right at me! while, I’m running (I was the last one to evacuate) they’re shooting out in front of my feet and everything. Here’s what happened to my clothes.

img_8629

Look at those burn marks!

img_8589

Here’s my pocket, the mesh melted and burned.

img_8590

Lastly, my shirt got a little burned and now has a hole.

img_8630

I also got this mysterious scratch. We’re still trying to find the criminal 😜 But I’m serious getting hit by a firework got me out of my shell! I don’t exactly know why, but it did!

After fireworks we jumped on their trampoline for hours, Mr. Hall showed me his set up for his vids, and then got home at like 3:00 Am.

Well, I hope you enjoyed this post! Tell me in the comments down below: How you liked the Fireworks photo-shoot (and which pic you liked. I love the bokeh ones😍) and if you ever had a Firework gone wrong before! 😄

Until next time!

img_6630

P.S: I can’t believe my Birthday is in 4 days!😮
